BCBSRA Annual General Meeting 2002
British Columbia Blind Sports and Recreation Association's
24th Annual General Meeting was held on June 9, 2002. The meeting was
moved from September to June to allow for the reporting of program and
financial information closer to the end of the fiscal year. The event
was well attended by members throughout British Columbia.
The meeting commenced with an informative presentation by guest speaker
Diana Steele, a registered dietitian from Eating for Energy, who spoke
about the importance of healthy eating, highlighting special recommendations
for current and future athletes. Topics reviewed included energy management,
hydration, preexercise eating, recovery foods, eating on the road, weight
management, supplements, and food safety and quality.
During the Meeting, elections were held for the positions of President,
Vice-President, and Member at Large, each for a 2 year term. We are pleased
to announce that Doug Stoutley, the former Chair of our Sport Commissioners
Committee, and Tom Ollis, our former Member at Large, are the association's
new president and Vice-President respectively. It is also our pleasure
to declare that Tami Grenon, a longstanding member, athlete, and volunteer
of the association, is our new Member at Large. They look forward to working
with you in their new roles.
As many of the organization's members have not had the opportunity to
visit our new office, to which we relocated on February 1st, 2002, an
open house was held immediately prior to the Annual General Meeting. This
open house gave those individuals who had not yet dropped in to the new
office a chance to view our new facility.
